1st Febraury til 1st April 2011
Smart Art Galleries presents an exciting range of original paintings, limited edition giclee prints and canvases from 3 outstanding local Sheffield artists, including Lynne Wilkinson, Trevor Neal & Matt Wood.
Trevor Neal The work of Trevor can be loosely divided into four groups.
1 – Personal Work. Drawing heavily on the Antique, showing architecture, ancient interiors, exotic furniture, rendered in a manner where the effects of time and the elements have taken their toll.
2 – The Naked Human Form. In a variety of media, many of the techniques used on the substrates imply an ageing that is contradictory to the well-toned bodies of the sitters.
3 – Landscapes. Throughout the ages travel has always inspired, I am no exception, whether home or abroad I seem to see more, be more receptive to the unfamiliar.
4 – Commissioned Works. Whilst most of my collaborations in this field have been in the form of interpretative portraiture, I have often been asked to put my imagination to work on such diverse subjects as family groups, cars, boats, album sleeves for rock bands to brass bands, bathrooms, horses, interiors and exteriors.
Lynne Wilkinson Lynne works directly on the canvas and does not sketch out a plan. Her pictures evolve in a similar way to arranging a pile of furniture in a room, ultimately everything has it place. She says she makes mistakes along the way, and make adjustments, but this is all part of the process of how she paint. Completing a picture gives a real buzz, but parting with it can be difficult. But there’s no greater compliment when somebody buys my work and takes it into their home.
Matt Wood Having never formally studied art, but was always interested in producing images and artwork that would reflect his passion for sport, music and film. Matt began painting in 2002 when he moved to Sheffield to study economics and sociology and decided that he needed some distinctive posters to decorate his room in the university halls of residence.
Borrowing some materials from his father who works in the sign industry, Matt set about creating pictures on white Foamex panels and after experimenting with several types of paint and found that Dulux trade emulsion gave the best results. Matt’s technique developed quickly as he moved from a two-tone pop art style to his celebrated ‘photo-realistic’ style.
Smart Art Galleries is Sheffield’s most innovative and exciting art destination, offering a unique product range for the 21st Century art lover. Situated in Totley, the gallery offers a vibrant mix of contemporary fine art, catering for a diverse audience. The gallery regularly displays work ranging from colourist and abstract, to figurative and photo-realistic.
Nominated as the critics choice in The Times, Smart Art Galleries has hosted exhibitions from Rolf Harris, Doug Hyde and Fabian Perez as well as stocking an exclusive collection of local art to suit all tastes.
Whether you are new to buying art or a seasoned collector, Smart Art Galleries will help you find art that will work perfectly in either your home or office surroundings.
